ABOUT THE SONG
While rooted in the Christian belief of Jesus’s birth, Christmas has also evolved to include secular celebrations, such as giving gifts and spending time with family and friends, and its date of December 25th was chosen in the 4th century, possibly to replace or absorb pagan winter solstice celebrations. Many traditions associated with Christmas, such as feasting and gift-giving, have roots in ancient pagan festivals, like Yule and Saturnalia, which celebrated the winter solstice and the return of the sun.
