Asheville (Mudville)

[Intro]
Mud and debris
Accompany me
It’s plain to see
Our destiny

[Verse 1]
After the water recedes
(We’re down on our knees)
Please hear our pleas
(No more days like these)

[Bridge]
Ash to mud
Sweat and blood

[Chorus]
There use to be music
On the street
No longer feet
To keep the beat

[Bridge]
Mud and debris
Accompany me
It’s plain to see
Our destiny

[Verse 2]
After the water recedes
(The nation’s heart bleeds)
Please hear our pleas
(No more climate fees)

[Bridge]
Ash to mud
Sweat and blood

[Chorus]
There use to be music
On the street
No longer feet
To keep the beat

[Bridge]
Mud and debris
Accompany me
It’s plain to see
Our destiny

[Outro]
Change our destiny
From tragedy

ABOUT THE SONG
After Hurricane Helene devastated North Carolina, we heard from many musician friends in Asheville, long known for its incredible street performers. The city’s vibrant music scene may struggle to recover. Our friend shared, “I’m back, but I lost my contacts with the new phone. It’s been a rough week—I lost nearly everything, but I saved my instruments. I’m still stuck in a parking lot, trying to help where I can. People are buying the Bandcamp downloads, but I’m struggling to recover my passwords. The bus is gone, and the RV is in bad shape after 9 years. Asheville, as much as I love it, is in bad shape. I might head to Savannah to stay with my sister. My place has been all over the news. We were hit hard. So much death and destruction… it will haunt me.”
