Down Home Kentucky Recipe

A song about:
Kentucky flooding is followed by heat wave
The rain that unleashed massive floods in Appalachian mountain communities was diminishing on Tuesday, leaving survivors to face a new threat: baking in the heat as they try to recover.

“It’s going to get really, really hot. And that is now our new weather challenge,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said at his Tuesday morning briefing on the disaster.

The death toll stood at 37 on Tuesday after more bodies were found Monday in the ruined landscape, and while more than 1,300 people have been rescued, crews were still trying to reach some people who remain cut off by floods or mudslides, he said. Hundreds remained unaccounted for.

LYRICS
Did you see Kentucky
All that flood…
Then mud
Now, they’ve raised the stakes
Ready to bake
(Shake and bake)
Baking up mud cakes
With the taste of neighbors’ blood
Yet failing to see
It’s our recipe
Laid to waste our neighborhood
Wish to God we’d understood
Stand
(For the land)

Did you see out West
No doubt in a drought
And raising the stakes higher
With some wild fire
Don’t you think it’s best
That we all found out
Can’t rest if you tire
Situation’s dire
Laid to waste our neighborhood
Wish to God we’d understood
Stand
(For the land)
