A Sad Song

[Verse 1]
Walking down the sidewalk, day after the storm,
I found a little bird, wings broken, torn.
I wondered if it had a home, a place to be,
A family left waiting, still hoping it’s free.

[Chorus]
And I think of the world, so split, so cold,
Where lives are lost, our story’s untold.
Families torn, like feathers in the rain,
In a land divided, hearts full of pain.

[Bridge]
The toll
(Of the flight of a soul)
Now on the rise
(To realize)
Fly above
(To the love)

[Verse 2]
If the bird’s soul could speak, what would it say?
Would it warn of the times, of the price we’ll pay?
In a country so divided, so full of fear,
Who’s left to sing when no one’s here?

[Chorus]
And I think of the world, so split, so cold,
Where lives are lost, and stories go untold.
Families torn, like feathers in the rain,
In a land divided, hearts full of pain.

[Bridge]
The toll
(Of the flight of a soul)
Now on the rise
(To realize)
Fly above
(To the love)

[Outro]
How remote
Is your vote?

ABOUT THE SONG
A collaboration between Jack Brouse and Daniel Brouse about the 2024 election. The day after the election, I was walking to school when I came across a dead bird lying in the middle of the sidewalk. I started to wonder if it had a family. If it did, do they know it’s gone? Or did the world just take it away, leaving them still searching for this lost soul? Then I thought about the state of the country now, and how it might change under Trump. More families may be torn apart, and lives could be lost in this divided America. Inspired by these thoughts, I wrote a riff and may even write lyrics for it.
