[Silence]
[Instrumental, Guitar, Piano, Organ, Synth, Bass, Percussion, Drums]
[Intro]
A failed Iraq attack
(Not again)
I mean… man, Afghanistan
(I ran when I saw Iran)
[Instrumental Intro: Pulsing Bass, Organ Swell, Muted Guitar Chops, Rising Synth Filter]
[Sub Bass, Vocal Chant]
I ran… (I ran)
Wasn’t exactly my plan
[Build: Synth Arpeggio Rising]
[Verse 1]
Morning bells were ringing
(Children laughed)
Books and pencils waiting
(Paths they’d craft)
Dust in the sunlight
(Windows bright)
Then the sky fell quiet
(Right before the strike)
[Pre-Chorus]
Sirens in the distance
(Too late to warn)
Shadows in the sky
(A terrible storm)
[Chorus]
I saw what they did to the girl’s school
(I ran. I ran.)
They must think we’re all fools
(War for sure… Iran)
Children in the rubble
(I ran. I ran.)
Nothing but trouble
(War for sure… Iran)
[Verse 2]
Backpacks in the courtyard
(Scattered wide)
Chalk lines on the blackboard
(Frozen in time)
Voices turned to echoes
(Cries and pain)
Names called out softly
(Again and again)
[Bridge – Tension Build]
[Low Piano, Rising Synth, Distant Drum Pulse]
Smoke on the horizon
(Dark and gray)
Running through the chaos
(Get away)
[Chorus]
I saw what they did to the girl’s school
(I ran. I ran.)
They must think we’re all fools
(War for sure… Iran)
Hope in the classroom
(I ran. I ran.)
Gone far too soon
(War for sure… Iran)
[Bridge – Breakdown]
[Percussion, Sub Bass, Spoken Vocal]
Let’s hear you say:
(Run, run, run, run away)
I ran!
(Run, run, run, break away)
I ran!
(Ran the best that I can)
[Instrumental – Extended Jam]
[Organ Solo]
[Saxophone Solo – mournful, wailing]
[Guitar Solo – slow, emotional bends]
[Organ Stabs, Driving Bass, Snare March]
[Verse 3]
Someone left a notebook
(On the ground)
Half a page of dreams
(Never found)
Names in quiet whispers
(Carried on)
Through the dust and sorrow
(Still not gone)
[Final Chorus]
I saw what they did to the girl’s school
(I ran. I ran.)
They must think we’re all fools
(War for sure… Iran)
History will remember
(I ran. I ran.)
Every lost ember
(War for sure… Iran)
[Outro]
[Minimal Piano, Soft Organ Pad]
I ran through the silence
(Still I hear)
Children’s voices calling
(Crystal clear)
I ran
(I ran)
But I remember
(Iran)
[Instrumental Fade: Piano and distant sax]
ABOUT THE SONG
“I Ran” is inspired by the children of Iran.
Since February 28, 2026, the conflict involving the United States and Israel has displaced an estimated 3.2 million people inside Iran, forcing hundreds of thousands of families to flee their homes.
That same day, missiles struck the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in Minab, killing at least 168 to 180 people, most of them girls between the ages of 7 and 12. The attack collapsed the school building while classes were underway.
A preliminary U.S. Department of Defense investigation has acknowledged that U.S. forces were responsible for the strike, likely due to misidentified intelligence.
“I Ran” is about what happens next.
When the bombs fall, people run.
