Tommy

LYRICS
Don’t know if I can put to tune
All of (your) life’s ruin
But it’s coming to me
You help me see
What it means to be

Wont’ forget:
Cherish every moment
Won’t be long
’til it’s gone
Won’t regret
A single moment
Just as long
As I write your song
For you to listen to
Help ease the pain
For yours and you, too
Help staying sane

Don’t know if I can put to tune
All of (your) life’s ruin
But it’s coming to me
You help me see
What it means to be

Written at the corner of High and Market Streets in Chester County, West Chester, PA, after two sisters approached me with a request. The one’s son had committed suicide a month prior. Could I play something for him… he liked Led Zeppelin. So, I played a couple Zeppelin songs:

“Throw me a line; If I reach it in time; I’ll meet you up there; Where the path runs straight And high”

“No, cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good… All last night sat on the levee and moaned… Thinkin’ ’bout my baby and my happy home”

When I finished, they were both crying. Then they asked, “Can I hug you?” After they left, I wrote this song for her son, Tommy.
